Incredibly cheap web hosting at only $0.99/mo with a pre payed 1 year billing cycle. Great if you are just starting out and only need to host 1 website. The price after the initial year will be $7.99/mo. If you rather want monthly billing the price for this plan is $8.99/mo.

FREE domain & whois privacy

You can get a free .com domain for the first year if you select a 1 year pre payed billing cycle. After that it is $14.99/year + a small ICANN fee. Check our domain guide to compare prices with other registrars. This plan also comes with FREE Whois Privacy which is a feature that 1&1 offers for all their registered domains. The SSL Certificate is delivered by Symantec and is included with every 1&1 hosting plan. The shared plans from 1&1 have a Resource Scaling feature which you can use to scale up and down your RAM. 5 levels are available.

Website builder

The optional Website Builder you can get with this plan is the 1&1 MyWebsite Personal and costs $6.99/mo.

Conclusion

This is currently the cheapest plan we have listed on this site, and that is great. For getting started and hosting one website for a year this plan could be decent. An included domain name for the first year and even whois privacy are big pros which equates to about $15 in savings.

The typical cloud hosting feature of resource scaling is great and also rare to find among the cheapest shared web hosting plans.

But this plan has some drawbacks

The website builder is not included which I am sure will disappoint a lot of beginner webmasters. Instead it has a hefty monthly price. Also once the first year of hosting is finished the price will about 8x making the value proposal entirely different. The lack of SSD storage like most other hosts have upgraded to will make your hosted sites slower.

Also, the limitation of hosting only 1 website and the money back guarantee that 1&1 offer is one of the shortest in the industry.

Maybe the biggest drawback and I believe it should be a deal breaker for most is the low amount of RAM of only 1.25 GB. Most websites will struggle with that low amount of ram. In comparison the cheap iPage Go plan has about 4GB of RAM for each account on their cheap shared plans.

Conclusion

Close to twice the price for the initial period than that of the 1&1 Unlimited Plus plan but only 50% more resources. That’s why that plan scores better than this one. However, after the initial period the value will be similar between the two plans.

Guarantees: 97 Day Money Back

Show review Show comments

To get the $9.95/mo price it is required to set up a yearly billing cycle. Unlike many hosts which have discounts for their initial term and renews at substantially higher prices, DreamHost renews this plan at the same price and duration as your initial commitment. If you select a 3 year billing cycles the price will be only $7.95/mo. If you rather want to be billed monthly it will cost $10.95/mo.

Plan features

The DreamHost WordPress Shared plan comes with WordPress pre-installed and you can host unlimited WP websites with it. The SSL Certificate is the free Let’s Ecrypt SSL. The FREE Domain is included with 1 or 3 year billing cycles and it will only be free for the first year, after that it will be reasonably priced to renew. The Malware Remover is not only a malware scan like most other sites offer, but also as suggested, a malware remover. This could save your website from downtime and it costs $3/mo.

The MySQL VPS gives you virtually dedicated resources for hosting your database. DreamHost claims it will increase the speed and reliability of your database, I am not sure how important it is if you use caching plugins for your WordPress sites. The first week is free and after that you will only pay for the amount of resources your database needs, starting at $15/mo.

The WordPress Migration Service costs $99 and promises to seamlessly move your WordPress installation over to your new hosting without downtime. It costs $99 which I think is a bit expensive considering you are also moving your hosting to this company. It could be good value though if you have lots of content and plugins that would make your site a real hassle to move and might require payed plugins to get the job done anyways. You need to check “Install WordPress” on the billing page (after choosing domain) to show the WordPress Migration Service option.

Conclusion

The long 97 day money back guarantee with this offers is great and reassuring. Few payment options is a drawback. Dreamhost are not accepting PayPal unlike most other hosts. Dreamhost states that this is the least powerful of their 4 WordPress hosting plans and that sites hosted with this offer only can accommodate an estimate of up to 10.000 monthly visitors.

However it is almost only half the price of the Basic DreamPress plan and that plan does not have a free domain or whois privacy.

You need to select and pre pay for 1 year of hosting to get the price of $13.75/mo. If you choose monthly billing this plan will cost $15/mo.

DreamHost allow easy scaling of resources with their VPS to upgrade your amount of server resources. That could make starting out with a cheap plan the best option for site without lots of traffic alread. All VPS plans have 100% SSD storage. One of the reasons why they can offer these plans at so low prices is the fact that they do not offer cPanel, instead they have created their own webpanel. cPanel do cost $13 per month so it is a great way to save money for the cheapest plans.

Conclusion

A great choice for low cost VPS hosting. However the lack of cPanel, and no money back gurantee lowers the score for these plans a little. You might also want to compare the DreamHost VPS plans with the slightly more scalable and better value plans from Digital Ocean here.

Monthly billing

The 1&1 managed cloud plans are only available with monthly billing, so no fancy pricing schemes here!

Resource scaling, FREE domain and FREE SSL

Scale resources for your cloud plan up and down when needed, with by-the-minute billing. Scale from / to: 1 - 16 CPU vCores, 0.5 - 128 GB RAM and from 20 - 500 GB of SSD storage. Note though that it is not possible to scale SSD storage down.

If you rather want root access instead of "managed" hosting you can slice $5 off the monthly price. You can select your stack and choose between Apache or Nginx + MySQL or MariaDB + PHP.

Free domain and whois privacy

You can get a free .com domain for the first year, then it is $14.99/year + a small ICANN fee. This plan also comes with FREE Whois Privacy, nice. The SSL Certificate is delivered by Symantec and is included with every 1&1 hosting plan.

Data center locations

You can choose between 3 data center locations. One in the USA and two in the EU (Germany and Spain)

To get the price of $16.95/ mo you need to pre pay for 1 year of hosting. If you want to pay on a month-to-month basis the price will be slightly higher: $19.95/mo.

Plan features

The DreamPress hosting plans has lots of bells and whistles for your WordPress site. They will install WP for you with several plugins and themes that are considered "battle-tested" by DreamHost. They promise to serve your web pages lightning fast with features like SSD storage, Object Caching, HTTP2, PHP 7 and the Jetpack plugin. You also get access to WordPress Expert Support 24/7.

Migrating to DreamPress

The WordPress Migration Service costs $99 and promises to seamlessly move your WordPress installation over to your new hosting without downtime. It costs $99 which I think is a bit expensive considering you are also moving your hosting to this company. It could be good value though if you have lots of content and plugins that would make your site a real hassle to move and might require payed plugins to get the job done anyways.

Domain price

A .com domain is $11.99 for the first year and slightly more after that, which is great considering that the Whois Privacy is free.

Conclusion

They only accept credit and debit cards and that is a slight drawback. The 30 day money back guarantee is OK. The limiting of how many websites you can host is another drawback. Or at least it could be, if you have multiple sites.

The performance features of the DreamPress plans are nice and will help your sites load fast with features like Brotli compression, HTTP/2 and the Nginx web server. Your site will also get HTTPS by default. If you outgrow your DreamPress plan you can upgrade with a simple click of the mouse, unless you are already hosted with the most powerful one.

Dreamhost states that this plan is suitable for websites with around 10.000 monthly visitors.
