Included features

The included website builder is a WordPress drag-and-drop website builder. WordPress is the world’s most popular system for publishing websites, and I would recommend building almost any kind of website with it.

WordPress comes pre-installed if you choose so on the order page.

The free domain is only included for annual or longer billing cycles, and only for the first year. Year 2 you would have to pay for the renewal of your domain. Domain whois privacy is an additional extra that helps prevent spam and increase your privacy by hiding your personal or business details from online domain information websites. This is an extra feature that many hosts like to monetize and can charge like $1+ a month for, but with the shared web hosting plans by DreamHost this is free.

Extra features

As far as I have noticed most web hosts include e-mail for free, but not with the cheapest shared plan by this host. You would need to pay $1.67/mo per email address @ your domain at the time I am writing this.

Website migration for a WordPress website costs $99. This is included with the more expensive managed WordPress hosting plans by DreamHost.

Support

DreamHost offers 24/7 support by tickets, but not 24/7 live chat support.

Price (1 year): $4.41/mo ($52.9)

Renewal: $8.99/mo

Type: Shared Hosting

Location: Asia or EU or USA

Features: cPanel, SFTP, SSD Storage, SSH, SSL Certificate, Website Migration

Max Websites: 1

Optional Extras: AntiSpam, Domain Whois Privacy, Railgun.

Payment: Credit Card, PayPal, Skrill, Wire

Guarantees: 30 Day Money Back

Your initial billing cycle is greatly discounted. Both by a promo discount (first term discount) and a duration discount (based on how long you select your billing cycle to be). This means that you can get the best discount for choosing long billing cycles, up to 3 years. It also means that the price will be about the double after your initial cycle.

Plan features

Dedicated IP address is $4/mo. Domain registration is $14.95/year, which is pretty expensive. Domain whois protection is $9.95/year, so I would suggest registering your domain name at another registrar. Check out our domain guide for tips. The AntiSpam is called Barracuda Spam Firewall and costs $3/mo for one domain. Backups start at $1.99/mo for 5 GB of storage. The 30 most recent backups are kept and that means you can have a month worth of backups if you select to backup daily. Another nice feature with this plan is that you can add CPU power and 1 GB of ram for only $3/mo.

Data center location

Choose between USA southwest (Arizona), USA northeast (Michigan), or EU (Amsterdam), Asia (Singapore).

Conclusion

This plan has only 0.5 GB RAM and 1 CPU core. I would suggest to check out the 2 slightly more expensive shared web hosting plans from A2 Hosting for much more resources and higher value offers.

Access to several data center around the globe is a plus, and so is the included free website builder app and the wide range of accepted payment options. I don't like that priority support is $20/mo - I would like to have fast support included in the price without paying extra. However, it is a great way to save a lot of money by not choosing it. On their order page, you will also find an option to add a dedicated IP address. It says that it is recommended for SSL Certificates, but that is really not the case anymore. It was only an issue with some old browsers.

Green web hosting

I am unsure about the renewal price for this plan as their support told me that they also discount renewals. You would need to contact them when the hosting plan is up for renewal and negotiate or at least ask for a good deal going forward. If you want to be eco-friendly while still having great web hosting performance, this host might be for you. Each hosting account is offset by 300% renewable energy credits, meaning that the world should get a little greener with each customer they acquire.

Plan features

Their shared web hosting plans have great features like PHP 7, HTTP/2, SSD storage, and Litespeed web server. The Litespeed web server is built on top of the traditional Apache web server and improves your website loading speed times. It also helps by lessening the resources needed for each visitor coming to your websites.

These shared web hosting plans have a RAM scaling feature that lets you upgrade your servers’ memory if your websites get lots of traffic and outgrow your plan. At the moment of writing this the cost is $2.5/mo for each extra 256 MB of RAM.

Monthly plan

If you want to go with a monthly plan you need to pay a lot more than going with the 1+ year discounted plans. You would also need to pay a $15 setup fee and you do not get a free domain either.

Datacenter locations

Select between the USA, Canada, and Europe. It looks like they offer the same features and prices across all of these data centers.

24/7 Support Team

If or once you need expert assistance you can contact their tech support team by phone, live chat, or by ticket. Their live chat and phone support operators are level 1, and if they can’t help you out they’ve got level 2 tech support available with tickets. They told me that tickets are answered in max 20 – 30 minutes which is not long.

Optional Extras: Malware Remover, MySQL VPS, WordPress Migration Service.

Payment: Credit Card

Guarantees: 97 Day Money Back

To get the $9.95/mo price it is required to set up a yearly billing cycle. Unlike many hosts which have discounts for their initial term and renews at substantially higher prices, DreamHost renews this plan at the same price and duration as your initial commitment. If you select a 3 year billing cycles the price will be only $7.95/mo. If you rather want to be billed monthly it will cost $10.95/mo.

Plan features

The DreamHost WordPress Shared plan comes with WordPress pre-installed and you can host unlimited WP websites with it. The SSL Certificate is the free Let’s Ecrypt SSL. The FREE Domain is included with 1 or 3 year billing cycles and it will only be free for the first year, after that it will be reasonably priced to renew. The Malware Remover is not only a malware scan like most other sites offer, but also as suggested, a malware remover. This could save your website from downtime and it costs $3/mo.

The MySQL VPS gives you virtually dedicated resources for hosting your database. DreamHost claims it will increase the speed and reliability of your database, I am not sure how important it is if you use caching plugins for your WordPress sites. The first week is free and after that you will only pay for the amount of resources your database needs, starting at $15/mo.

The WordPress Migration Service costs $99 and promises to seamlessly move your WordPress installation over to your new hosting without downtime. It costs $99 which I think is a bit expensive considering you are also moving your hosting to this company. It could be good value though if you have lots of content and plugins that would make your site a real hassle to move and might require payed plugins to get the job done anyways. You need to check “Install WordPress” on the billing page (after choosing domain) to show the WordPress Migration Service option.

Conclusion

The long 97 day money back guarantee with this offers is great and reassuring. Few payment options is a drawback. Dreamhost are not accepting PayPal unlike most other hosts. Dreamhost states that this is the least powerful of their 4 WordPress hosting plans and that sites hosted with this offer only can accommodate an estimate of up to 10.000 monthly visitors.

However it is almost only half the price of the Basic DreamPress plan and that plan does not have a free domain or whois privacy.

Conclusion

I don’t know if the extra cost is worth it over the very similar, but cheaper Hostinger Premium plan. To most people that is. If you however know that you need more resources for hosting lots of sites and be able to receive lots of traffic, it probably is the better choice. The cost is about double that of the Premium plan but you also do get double the resources, making the value proposition the same, if you need those extra resources. Another few benefits for this plan is that you get priority support and the important daily backups is included. These things adds to the total value you get and rewards this plan with higher ratings that the other Hostinger shared hosting plans.

Cheap cloud plan to get started

I love that this plan is so cheap for what it offers. It makes it a great plan for new websites. It is super scalable and can grow together with the traffic to your websites.

Top web hosting provider for the cloud

With Cloudways you can get access to the best cloud hosting companies in the world. All with easy to use interfaces and an expert support team ready to assist. Cloudways gives away free trial accounts to anyone that want to try them out. The trial lasts for 3 days, and you don't even need to enter any credit card details to try it out. It is available for all of the different cloud hosting providers they are partners with, but only for starter plans. You can quickly scale the web server after the trial though, to meet your server resource requirements.

Plan features

The CloudwaysBot is a server assistant that will monitor your servers, applications, billing issues, and overall performance. You can set up the alerts and recommendations you want to receive. You also get access to two Cloudways developed WordPress plugins. One for migrating your sites there, and one plugin that is supposedly best in class when it comes to caching WordPress sites.

Daily off-site backups

You can choose how often you want to have backups generated. You can also choose how long they should be retained. It is even possible to generate backups on demand. $0.033/GB per server will be applied for off-site backup storage.

Lack of payment options

Only accepting credit and debit cards is a drawback to all the Cloudways plans unfortunately.

Cloudways expert live support

Get access to expert cloud tech support 24/7. You can also ask their live sales support any questions you might have before buying.

Scale your server as needed

There are lots of levels for scaling your server to just have the amount of resources you require. Starting at just 1 GB RAM and 1 CPU core, and going all the way up to 32 CPU cores and 192 GB RAM.

Data center locations

Choose between the following 11 data centers to host your websites and applications: USA - New York, USA - San Francisco, Canada - Toronto, Europe - London, Europe - Amsterdam, Europe - Frankfurt, Asia - Singapore, Asia / India - Banglore
